Most would say Val d’Isere is the most well-known French ski resort, but it is so much more than a ski resort, indeed, you could have an amazing holiday in Val d’Isere without putting on a pair of skis.
Val d'Isere plays host to a variety of activities and snow sports during the winter months. Why not go for a swim, visit a museum, watch a film, book a treatment at the spa, or dine out and enjoy French cuisine and a glass of wine?
Husky Sleigh Rides
Get a taste of Alaska on a husky powered sledge whilst taking in the breath-taking mountain scenery. This activity takes place every day in the resort of either Tignes or Ste Foy and on certain days in Val d’Isère with Evolution 2.
What you need to know:- Not suitable for pregnant women.
- Minimum age 2.
- Suitable outdoor clothing such as ski gear with warm snow boots (no ski boots allowed), hat, gloves and goggles/sunglasses are strongly recommended.
- Go to the Evolution 2 office or call +33 (0)6 59 24 00 02 to book when you arrive in resort.
Snowmobile / Skidooing
Once the ski runs have closed for the day, try your hand at driving these 500cc two-seater motorbikes built specially for the snow. With the rear wheel replaced by a caterpillar track for momentum and the front wheel swapped for a pair of skis for steering, these snowmobiles are incredibly quick. After some expert instruction you will soon be out enjoying the circuit at the bottom of the Tommeuses chairlift with breathtaking views of Mont-Blanc, Bellevarde and La Sache peaks, Lac du Chevril and the Tignes dam.
What you need to know:
From €80 (or €40 as a passenger of the guide) with Evolution 2.
If you're riding as a duo, you can swap places halfway through the tour if you're both over 18 and hold a valid B licence.
Ice Driving
Quad, buggy or car... The perfect way to have fun on the ice in Tignes! This activity takes place in Tignes Les Brévières and the circuit is accessible by car, on foot (descent from Tignes 1800 using the Brévières gondola) or by ski (ensure to remember a change of footwear suitable from driving!)
What you need to know:
- Quad or buggy driving from age 14.
- For ice driving, no driving licence is necessary but all drivers must be at least 18 years old and have some prior experience of driving, being able to start and stop a vehicle under control.
- The track is open from mid-December to the end of February.

Paragliding
Want to try something new? Tired of having your feet firmly on the ground? For the ultimate exhilaration, experience the silence and taste the freedom of flying in perfect safety. Paragliding can be experienced in numerous interesting and beautiful places worldwide but it truly has to be said none more beautiful than the Alps.
What you need to know:- Parapente Val d'Isere offer tandem flights for €80 for children and from €120 for adults.

Ice diving
At the heart of the Tignes winter wonderland, the Tignes 2100 natural lake transforms into a stunning ice canvas up to 2 metres thick in winter. This icy surface plays with the ligth and shadows creating a mesmerising spectacle. Dive into this magical world through a hole in the ice with a certified instructor (always tethered to the surface so you won't get lost!), by day or by night and relive the iconic "Le Grand Bleu/The Big Blue" movie experience right in the location of its famous ice scene. While daytime dives welcome everyone, the thrilling night dives are best suited for those with prior experience. You will spend around 15 minutes by the side of the instructor, exploring the magical ice formations.
What you need to know:- No previous diving experience is necessary, all divers, however, must be a minimum height of 1m50.
- Daylight dive from €110 and night time dive from €130.
- From age 15. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- No prior diving experience required.
- A minimum of 2 participants is required for the night dive.

Ice climbing
For the true mountain enthusiast, why not scale an amazing frozen waterfall? The waterfall is located at the entrance of Val d’Isère and is 40m wide and 200m high. A mountain guide will teach you the basics of climbing with the aid of ice axes and crampons. During the day by sunlight, or at night by floodlight.

From €150 per person for a half-day session.
Helicopter rides
For a truly amazing, thrilling and exhilarating panoramic bird’s eye view of the mountains choose a sightseeing scenic helicopter tourist flight. Hover over the slopes or tour around the Olympic resorts in a helicopter, marvelling at the wonderful scenery beneath you.

From €115 per person.
Snake Gliss
Finally available to earthlings, these contraptions from the future, resembling something between a bobsleigh and a tramway, may be enjoyed with no-limits in groups of 2 to 20 people. These bizarre sledges that couple together may be enjoyed by all ages from 7 to 77 years.
What you need to know:
- Every Monday from mid-February to March from 17:45 to 19:45.
- Minimum age 4.
- Gloves are compulsory and ski boots are not allowed.
- Takes place late afternoon on the Savonnette Nursery slope.

Farm Tour
La Ferme de l'Adroitis is a family farm in the heart of Val d'Isere offering delicious cheeses, cold meats, milk, yogurt, jam, butter, eggs, honey, juice, wine and crozets (a type of traditional Savoyard pasta). Xavier will happily welcome you and your kids to his farm to meet the animals every day from 07:00 to 19:00. You can even watch the cows being milked every evening at 17:30.

Cheese-making tours available via the Val d'Isere tourist office.
Sports Centre and Swimming Pool
The leisure centre, by the Olympique lift, is a world of nothing but stone, wood and glass that lets the mountains and the light of Val d’Isère come right up to the water’s edge! For water babies this 800m² aquatic centre offers plenty for everyone: play pool, fragranced pool, current stream, water cannons, massage jets, bubble bed, paddling pool, 25m x 10m swimming pool...
What you need to know:
For those who prefer to stay dry, the leisure centre also offers a range of facilities including basketball, table tennis, volley ball, badminton, squash courts, aerobics, yoga, gymnastics and a climbing wall.
Ice Skating
Val d'Isere has an open air ice rink in the resort centre just behind the nursery slopes…Keep the kids happy for a while, behave like a kid for a few hours or enjoy a romantic skate at dusk with a loved one before dinner.

- Open daily from 10:00 - 20:00 every day from January to mid-March.
Woodland Adventure Trail
Located at the top of the Savonette toboggan run, in the larch trees of the Rogoney forest, is Val' Aventures, a treetop adventure park with 5 different routes of varying levels. There's even a specially-designed course for children aged 4 or 1-metre tall. For an added challenge, why not try an evening session and experience the magic of the forest lit up at nightfall?
What you need to know:
- Open on request from Monday to Saturday. Pre-booking essential. Call +33 07 63 67 82 19 to book.
- Afternoon session until dusk: from €15 - €25 Euros depending on course.
- Illuminated evening session (until 21:00): €30 per person.
- Warm clothing required: ski outfit, gloves, shoes for walking in the snow.
Ice Floating in Tignes
Discover a new relaxation experience straight from Finland. Dressed in a dry suit, float in the waters of the frozen lake in Tignes for an extraordinary moment of well-being. Reconnect with nature and appreciate the magnificence of the surrounding mountains. Feel the sun on your face, watch the snowflakes delicately falling or the magic of the stars at night.
What you need to know:
- Every Thursday from 10am to 3pm.
- Minimum age 10.
- €80 per person (1 hour session) 1 hour of activity including at least 30 minutes of relaxation in the water.
- Bring: Your ski outfit and warm underwear underneath, thick socks, ski goggles or sunglasses. A hair elastic for long hair

Bun J Ride in Tignes
Thrill seekers, this one’s for you! Attached at the waist by two elastic bands (similar to those for a bungee jump), ski or snowboard down a 30-metre ramp at 2,600 metres altitude and impress spectators with your best trick!
What you need to know:
- €75 per person
- To jump you must be at least 14 years old (parental authorisation required) and able to confidently ski on red slopes, or snowboard on black slopes.
- Meeting point is just below the top of the Merles chairlift in Tignes (no pedestrian access).

Moonbiking in Val d’Isere
Missing your bike? Why not give moonbiking a go? Otherwise known as 'Fatbiking'. Designed to glide over the snow, a moonbike is an electric snow bike that combines the thrill of snowmobiling with the agility and environmental friendliness of an electric bike. Because they are electric, moonbikes are relatively quiet, making the experience even more magical as you explore the serene, snow-covered surroundings without the noise pollution typically associated with motorised snow vehicles.
The activity starts at the bottom of the Tommeuses chairlift (liftpass required to access the meeting point). There are 2 ways to get there: By ski: From the top of the Daille gondola, take the green piste to the Tommeuses chairlift. On foot: From the top of the La Daille cable car in Val D’Isère followed by a short walk across the piste.
What you need to know:
- €80 per person (10 minute briefing + 30 minutes riding).
- Minimum age: 18 and minimum height: 1.55m.
- Driving licence required.
