We work to extremely strict ratios, tighter than the statutory minimums, to ensure the quality of our care. The number of youngsters that we are able to look after will vary according to the age mix on each particular week. Please call our sales team for advice on current availability.
Bear Cubs is open between 9am and 5pm everyday except Thursday when we close at 1pm. We can look after your little one for as long or as little as you like within that time.
We know how daunting it can be planning your ski time with childcare, perhaps an even more daunting experience for the children in a new place, so we arrange for a welcome meeting at Bear Cubs at 08.30 on a Monday morning. This is a good opportunity to meet the nannies, chat through the week ahead, and let us know your children’s routine.
The children have endless fun inside and out, from arts and crafts, treasure hunts and storytelling, to building igloos, bum boarding and songs. With your consent, we also take your children outdoors – from building snowmen to short walks, we know the best spots for sledging or drinking hot chocolate!
We provide a supervised lunch either in a local restaurant, in our bar, in our restaurant or in Bear Cubs playroom itself. Lunchtime will involve something fresh and nutritious, but most importantly something your child actually likes. Your nanny will discuss this with you when you arrive. For younger infants on bottles or purees, we will happily prepare any feeds required
We know that you won’t be able to relax until you are sure that your children are enjoying their ski lessons and being looked after well. We have our own private ESF Club Piou Piou snow garden right outside the Bear Cub playroom in Les Arcs, a dedicated snow garden in the centre of La Plagne in partnership with Oxygene, and the beginner’s area is only a short distance away in Les Gets.
Whatever their age, if you have booked full-day or half-day childcare then our ski nannies will liaise with the instructors, check your child has gloves, goggles and sunblock in the morning and collect your precious package in time for lunch. The Bear Cub Playrooms in Les Arcs and La Plagne are a cool place to hang out, close to the piste, convenient for outdoor play, easy for ski instructors to pick up and drop off, and easy for parents to peek at any point during the day. But for slightly older children we whisk them away for activities better suited to their age.
The sloth of Polar Bears each week will be able to indulge in junior pub quiz and mocktail-making sessions in the bar, maybe quiet time reading a book or watching a film in the lounge. The Bears in Les Arcs can also make use of our wonderful hotel facilities including cinema club, water polo in the pool, babyfoot in the bar, and basketball, football and half-pickleball on our micro-court off the gym. There are also wider opportunities around both Arc 1950 and La Plagne resorts including the igloo villages, mini-golf and snowshoeing.
Polar Bears is not available in Les Gets but generally the group sizes and age differentials are much less and we can coordinate and adapt activities to keep everyone happy and engaged throughout the day.
We want all the family to experience the delights of snow, so will endeavour to provide childcare services for little ones as young as 12 weeks old. Please do contact us to discuss your requirements.
For parents who would like dinner in peace, our Pyjama Club in Les Arcs is for children over the age of 4 who aren’t quite ready for bed. We organise cinema nights, popcorn, stories, hot chocolate or quiet games and colouring before bedtime.
We don’t provide this service in Altitude Lodge as it is easy for you to pop the children in the playroom downstairs and fire up the projector and cinema screen for a little quiet time.
Pyjama Club is €10 per child. Paid locally and subject to availability.
