Whilst we are no longer able to offer ski hosting in our French resorts, if you holiday with us in St Anton, Zermatt or Verbier we suggest you put your piste map in your pocket, forget about where you’re going and revel in the pure, heart-pumping pleasure of being in the Alps prettiest resorts.
We asked our resident Zermatt ski host, Becca, to give us an insider’s guide to one of our luxury ski resorts; Zermatt. Our ski host in each of these fabulous resorts will guide you to the best snow, the shortest queues and the coldest beer.
What are your favourite runs in Zermatt?
If you love quiet tree runs then number nine (Tufteren) underneath the Patrullarve chair is where you should head. With no one around you can soak up the alpine air and have an enjoyable ski.
Do you want to practise your big carving turns? Then you should brave the T bar and go down run 53 from the top. It is always deserted and so much fun.
If you’re all about first lifts then head over to Italy and ski all the way down from the top of the Klein Matterhorn to Valtournenche. There is a very short chair to take up to the Salette area, but otherwise this is the longest run you can do top to bottom which is sure to get the thighs burning.
For the thrill seekers… take the black 59, it’s pretty steep and super fun to follow all the way down into Cervinia.
Where are the best lunch spots?
A hidden gem in Zermatt is Enzian in Findeln. It is really tucked away, and a traditional little alpine restaurant with friendly staff. There’s something for everyone on the menu and a stunning view of the Matterhorn, particularly from the terrace on a sunny day.
Another great place is Igloo, just off of run 7 into Cervinia. This is another you may only know about by local recommendation. From the piste above it looks like a tiny hut on the side of the mountain, but inside it is cosy with a wood burner and a very traditional alpine feel. They offer amongst other things, a different pasta dish every day and the staff are very accommodating.
What is your highlight of the season so far?
When there has just been a dump of snow and enjoying a powder day lapping the deserted White Hare run from Hohtalli to Gant - getting fresh lines every time!
