Why visit…Val d’Isere Special

POSTED:

Why visit...Val d'Isere

Having spent my season in Val d’Isere it would only be right to kick off our “Why visit” blog series with this fantastic resort. Hailed as ‘the greatest ski resort in the world’ Val d’Isere has practically limitless skiing and stunning surroundings. With twinkling fairy lights and snowy surroundings, Val d’Isere will make you feel like you’re celebrating Christmas all season long. What’s more, our luxury catered chalets have bubbling hot tubs, roaring fire places and three course meals provided by a dedicated chalet host.

Read on to discover why you should have your next ski holiday in Val d’Isere.

Val d'isere ski area

  • The Espace Killy is the highest extended ski terrain in the Alps.
  • Great place to learn to ski with free lifts and nursery slopes
  • Mile upon mile of wide gentle sunny pistes to cruise down.
  • Plenty of challenging pistes to keep your legs working until last lifts.

Facts you may not know about Val d’Isere & VIP SKI

  • L’Espace Killy is the combined area of Val d’Isère and Tignes named after Jean Claude Killy who learnt to ski here and went on to win the 1968 Winter Olympics.
  • The first ski lift was built in 1934 by Jacques Mouflier
  • This winter we will have over 60 staff working in Val d’Isere
  • We have one of the oldest building in Val d’Isere – La Petite Ferme has 1762 carved in the stone at the back of the impressive fireplace

Eating, drinking and partying

Val d’Isere offers such a great range of restaurants on and off the mountain it’s tricky to pick my favourites but I’d say don’t leave until you have eaten in both these restaurants;

  • Bar de L’Ouillette at the bottom of the Madeline piste offers great food, brightly coloured furniture and a buzzing atmosphere
  • Les Barmes De L’Ours is an elegant restaurant inside a beautiful hotel, a great place to relax in a fireside armchair for pre-dinner drinks.

As quite the expert on the Val d’Isere après ski venues, you absolutely must experience at least one of these 3:

  • The famous Folie Douce - amazing atmosphere and intriguing cabaret acts
  • Café Face - cheap pints that go up by 20 cents every hour – get in there early!
  • Le Petit Danois - great live music and brilliant boozy hot chocolates.

With all this and more, what’s not to love about Val d’Isere?

This resort is sure to have you coming back year after year to experience its vast ski area and jaw dropping scenery. Pick up the phone and get booking, we have 25 Val d’Isere chalets for you to choose from!
