Working as a VIP SKI chalet host

Considering a season as a chalet host? Here’s a peek into the highs, the hustle, and the powder-filled afternoons that come with this unforgettable job in the mountains.

A typical day as a chalet host

Early doors - Rise and Shine
The alarm buzzes (maybe for the third time!), and as tempting as it is to stay under the duvet, there’s work to do. Guests are expecting wake-up drinks by 7:30, so it’s straight into action with coffees and teas in hand. Here’s the plus side: an early start means you’re one step closer to the slopes. The day really kicks off in the kitchen. VIP SKI has high standards, but after a couple of weeks, it all starts to feel like second nature—croissants and pain au chocolat in the oven, last night’s dishes sorted, and the table perfectly set with coffee ready to go. You’ll be a pro at whipping up everything from runny poached eggs to moreish carrot cupcakes.

VIP Breakfast Spread: Think fresh French baguettes, yogurts on ice, warm pastries, jams, honey, and Nutella—all laid out against stunning mountain views. This is what fuels the guests’ big day, and the satisfaction of a job well done makes it worth every early start.

Mid-Morning Prep
While guests indulge in breakfast, you’re busy crafting the afternoon’s treats and prepping for the night’s dinner. Working efficiently means everything’s in place, and you’re ready to head out for the main event—the slopes! There is time to set up afternoon tea and ensure the chalet is ready for the guests’ return. Little details matter, and nothing feels better than making sure everything’s in place so guests can relax after their day on the slopes.

Ski Time!
With the morning prep done, it’s time to hit the mountains. VIP SKI makes sure you get plenty of time to ski, and you’ll find yourself exploring fresh powder and blue skies on your days off. Last season, hosts skied around 84 days out of 96. It’s all about balance, and out here, everyone—from uni grads to retirees—shares a love for skiing that brings them together like family.

Dinner Prep and Service
A three-course dinner party for eight? Yes, please! You’ll need to be back in the chalet for 6ish. Once you’ve done the dinner menu a few times, it’s smooth sailing—and the dining room transforms into a warm, welcoming space with great food and a few laughs. VIP SKI encourages a bit of socializing too, so you can make your guests feel at home.

Après-Work Fun
After coffee and mints, the day is done—or just beginning, depending on how you look at it! With everything cleaned up and prepped for the morning, there’s often time to enjoy the local nightlife with new friends and seasoned seasonnaires alike. The energy is electric, and those nights out make the job just as memorable.

Tips for a Top-Notch Season

  • Stay Organised: Keep workspaces clean, wash up as you go, and stick to a routine.
  • Embrace Efficiency: Prepping in advance lets you ski longer and makes life easier.
  • Enjoy Every Moment: The work is intense, but the rewards—both on the slopes and off—are worth every early morning and late night.
